What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness - in that it is a state of highly focused internal concentration.  The body is very relaxed and the mind is alert and active.

It may surprise many to learn that we experience trance states often during the course of our day.

Hypnosis is just a different state of consciousness which you can enter naturally so that, for therapeutic purposes, beneficial, positive and helpful suggestions may be given directly to your unconscious mind.

During the hypnotic state the mind is more receptive and allows you to effect the change you desire.   When in trance the conscious part of your mind is sidestepped allowing access to the unconscious part of your mind.  This is important because this is where the unwanted behaviours, unwanted habits, unwanted emotions, unwanted symptoms, unwanted beliefs are stored.  Under hypnosis the suggestions seem to be better accepted in the unconscious and, therefore, the suggestions can germinate and take root and allow that imporant change to take place, allowing the behaviourial or psychological goal to be achieved.

Trance allows you to access this part of your mind to make the change you want in order for you to become unstuck and move forward.

The benefits of hypnosis
Providing the presenting problem originates from experiences or trauma from the past, from repetitive learned behaviour (as with habits) or from performance related stress, then hypnosis may be used to give successful treatment.

It has been used to treat the following:

  • Changing unwanted habits such as: smoking, excessive drinking, nail biting.

  • Obtaining relief and often remission from symptoms such as: emotional and physical pain.

  • Hypnosis can help the individual from phobias, compulsions, emotional problems, sleeping problems, lack of confidence, low self esteem, guilt feelings, jealousy, and many of the worries and anxieties of everyday life.

  • The use of Self Hypnosis can help deal with the stress and tensions caused by modern living, reducing the risk of heart problems and blood pressure.
