Hypnosis is an easy way to overcome fears.

How hypnosis can help

Various desensitising and deconditioning hypnotherapy techniques are used to lessen the anxiety whilst in the state of hypnosis.  In some cases EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitising & Reprocessing) techniques are used.

The therapy includes

  • reducing the over breathing
  • learning new associations of  relaxation prior to and during and the flight
  • changing a person’s interpretation of flying and modifying thoughts of danger

Whatever it is that troubles you about flying, we will explain exactly how hypnotherapy can help you overcome your problem so that you can begin to enjoy the experience.

What can cause a fear of flying?

A fear of flying may have developed from a previous frightening experience.  Usually people can't remember this, and it is not important to remember it.

The fear can be limited to just one difficulty (ie. airplanes) or it may be part of another problem such as panic attacks, claustrophobia or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The impact on a person's life

A fear of flying can affect both a person's social and professional life.

There are those:

  • who experience moderate apprehension about flying and for them it remains an unpleasant experience.
  • who restrict their flying to an absolute minimum and experience considerable discomfort prior to and/or during the flight out and return journey
  • who avoid flights

Once a person gets into a pattern of avoiding flying they begin to reinforce their fear.  The fear then begins to take on a life of its own.  Fears about flying can start when contemplating the journey, booking the journey, driving to the airport, being in the terminal, getting onto the plane or when the plane gets ready for takeoff.

Specific fears associated with flying
The fear symptoms can be specific or multiple and can range from

  • Taking off , landing
  • Fear of crashing
  • Fear of not being in control, losing control, panicking
  • Fear of heights

  • Nausea – air sickness
